The project aimed to improve home treatment of childhood malaria and referral of adults with chronic cough for an urban squatter settlement in Malawi. Participatory approaches applied to include village health committees, public health workers, district management teams and national level officials in all aspects of the proposal development.

Planning a training for storekeeper and health workers – Malawi

Assisting the District Health Management Team, Lilongwe to plan the training of storekeepers, community based public and voluntary health workers TB and malaria intervention. This included the development and review of the intervention package, piloting of IEC materials and the assessment/evaluation of the activities for 3 urban squatter areas in Lilongwe, Malawi.

Planning a comprehensive public health and HIV intervention – South Africa

Implementation planned for a comprehensive public health and HIV intervention for a target population of 40 000 across 5 informal settlements and 6 hostels in inner city Johannesburg.

To plan for community sensitisation activities, needs assessments for training of trainers, storekeepers training workshops, monitoring and evaluation. Conducted in a rural district of coastal Kenya, alongside a team from the MOH and district health office. Included detailed work plans and budgeting support.
