Communication and interviewing skills course – Malaria – Kenya
- Developed, implemented and evaluated course content, teaching methods and materials were developed & subsequently piloted with 27 field assistants for 6 days. Field assistants then applied skills to large baseline assessment and evaluation using survey and qualitative assessments for a community malaria intervention. Monitoring and support of 12 field assistants and 3 refresher trainings. Manual published.

- Adaptation of the course content and materials of Communication manual (described above) for training of 10 field assistants. They then conducted a large baseline assessment and evaluation using survey, audit and qualitative methods for a TB intervention.
DFID TB Knowledge programme Malawi and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, UK Malaria treatment, teaching, communication skills course – Kenya- Development of 3 courses and 3 manuals to train 1) the project coordinator to train public health technicians, 2) 10 public health technicians to train storekeepers, community health workers and 3) the storekeeper and community health workers manual. Critical participatory review was facilitated for each workshop. The course included teaching skills, communication skills and knowledge on malaria to improve home treatment of childhood fevers.
TB, malaria, teaching and communications course - Malawi- Facilitate the development of 2 courses and 2 manuals to train and support 1) grocery storekeepers (24) TB and malaria advisory skills 2) community health workers (20), CBO health workers (15) and village chiefs (70) to conduct health promotion meetings/consultations on TB and malaria. Critical participatory review facilitated for each workshop. The course included teaching skills, communication skills and knowledge on malaria to improve home treatment of childhood fevers and referral of chronic cough adults from community.
