Operational Research – Frameworks for Implementation

Aim Develop and strengthen participants’ capacity to apply the key steps in Operational Research to plan, design and interpret operational research methods to improve / develop a public health programme with the required impact.
Who the course is intended for? This course is intended for people working within organisations involved in public health programming who have grasped the basic research concepts and who would benefit from a framework to plan and implement operational research.
Summary Operational research identifies and solves programme problems within a timely manner, helps policy makers and programme managers make evidence based programme decisions and it improves programme quality and performance using scientifically valid methods. This course will provide the participants with the tools necessary to generate the evidence which can improve programme effectiveness, efficiency, quality, access, scale up, or sustainability through a variety of research methods.
Participant outcomes By the end of the workshop through case studies participants will have the skills and knowledge to:
  • Describe the operational research concepts and frameworks
  • Identify programmatic issues/questions that OR can address
  • Identify and apply the key steps in
    • the planning phase
    • the implementations phase
    • follow through phase
Teaching Methods Participatory methods - group work, role plays and group presentations will collectively facilitate the building of knowledge and skills. Approximately 50% of the course will be interactive.
Tuition Fees

Nairobi. Fees range from 40,000-45,000 KES, per participant. All inclusive.
